BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield women's soccer team travels to Florida for a pair of matches this weekend.
The Roadrunners play Friday night at Florida Atlantic with kickoff set for 7 p.m. (EDT). This is the first time that Bakersfield and Florida Atlantic are playing each other in women's soccer.
The Owls are 4-3 after defeating Brown 1-0 in overtime last Sunday at home. Florida Atlantic's leading scorer is Claire Emslie who has scored three goals and has seven points. Sydney Drinkwater has played every minute in goal for the Owls. She has a 1.08 goals against average.
Bakersfield concludes the trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. (EDT) start at Florida Gulf Coast. This is the first time that Bakersfield and Florida Gulf Coast are playing each other in women's soccer.
The Eagles are 4-3 after losing 2-0 to No. 16 South Carolina last Sunday in Tampa as part of the USF Classic. Florida Gulf Coast hosts Wofford before playing the 'Runners on Sunday.
Tabby Windell has scored six of the 11 Eagles' goals this season. She has a team leading 14 points. Brittany Brown has a 1.00 goals against average and has made 35 saves in seven starts in 2014.
This is the first trip for Bakersfield to the state of Florida at the Division I level. The Roadrunners are playing for the second time in the Sunshine State as the 'Runners defeated Lynn and Tampa during the 2000 season while playing at the Division II level.
