BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Dashiell McNamara scored with 17 seconds remaining in the second overtime to give UC Davis (2-0-3) a 2-1 victory over Bakersfield (4-1) in the men's soccer opener for the Roadrunners Saturday night.

The teams played a scoreless first half. Simon Doherty (Jr., West Lothian, Scotland, FDU) gave Bakersfield the lead when he headed in an Aggies' pass in the UCD box in the 50th minute. Lucas Mohageg scored off a CSUB turnover at 82:25 to tie the match. McNamara took advantage of a Roadrunner turnover to set up the game winning goal which he scored from 20 yards out in the top right corner of the Bakersfield net.

“I really felt like we should have got a second goal in the opening 20 minutes of the second half,” said Bakersfield head coach Richie Grant. “We had several chances to get the second goal and kill the game off. I was really pleased the way the team played. Give full credit to Davis. That's a corker of a goal.”

It was a physical match as the teams combined for 42 fouls and eight yellow cards (four for each team). The match was played in front of a crowd of 1,164, the second largest regular season crowd in CSUB Division I history.

“I would like to acknowledge the crowd,” Grant said. “It was amazing, it was a special night here where everyone got behind us. “They were a pretty physical team, a difficult team to play against. I thought we adjusted to that in the first half and in the second half we completed dominated in terms of chances.”

The Roadrunners travel to the New Mexico TLC Plumbing & Utility Invitational next weekend. The tournament opens Friday when CSUB faces VCU at 2 p.m. (MDT).
