CSUB Clinches Playoffs, Rematch with Utah Valley

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team closed the regular season with a 3-2 loss to Utah Valley on Saturday at Main Soccer Field. CSUB's strong season (5-4-7, 1-1-4 Big West), during which the Roadrunners were very difficult to defeat, secured the fourth and final seed in the Big West Championship, which begins next week.

How it Happened

Utah Valley opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Oliver Watts finished assists from Nil Grau and Montealegre. The `Runners responded just over 16 minutes later, with Jackson scoring an unassisted goal at 36:32 that sent the teams to halftime tied 1-1.

Montealegre restored the Wolverine lead at 51:23 and added a second goal at 84:26 with an assist from Jackson Medina. The `Runners remained dangerous late; Haghighat scored at 88:43, but Utah Valley held on to seal the win and the Big West regular season title.

Despite the result, CSUB's strong season earned the fourth and final seed in the Big West Championship. The `Runners will get an immediate rematch in the semifinals.
