BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield women's soccer team head to UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara this weekend. The Roadrunners (0-5-1) travel to UC Riverside Friday night for a 7 p.m. start.
The 'Runners and Highlanders will play for the fifth time with UC Riverside leading the all-time series 3-1. UCR defeated the 'Runners 2-0 last season in Bakersfield. The Highlanders are 2-1-1 after defeating Northern Iowa 3-0 in a rain-delayed match on Monday. UC Riverside is led by Tyler Cunningham who paces the team in goals (3), assists (2), points (8), and shots (11).
Bakersfield plays UC Santa Barbara Sunday night at 6 p.m. Bakersfield and UC Santa Barbara are playing for the seventh time with the Gauchos leading the all-time series 5-0-1. UCSB defeated Bakersfield 3-0 last season in Santa Barbara.
UCSB is 2-3-1 entering this week's action. The Gauchos lost to Stanford and Loyola Marymount last week and will host San José State Friday night before welcoming the Roadrunners to Harder Stadium. Amanda Bell and Dakota George lead UCSB as the duo have both scored two goals and have five points on the year.
Bakersfield goalie Tori Ornela (R-Jr., Lemoore, Calif., Lemoore HS) continues to climb the 'Runner school record book. Ornela is now third in minutes played (3,507) and saves (180). She is seventh in victories (8), and ninth in goals against average (1.82) and ninth in career shutouts (3).
