BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield women's soccer team (0-2) hits the road for the first time this weekend when the Roadrunner play at Sacramento State and Southern Utah.
Sacramento State opened the 2014 season by going 1-1. The Hornets dropped the opener 1-0 to local rival UC Davis last Friday before defeating Pacific 1-0 with 20 seconds to play in double overtime last Sunday. Kimberly Mata played every minute for Sacramento State last weekend, making 10 saves. Jennifer Lum scored the Hornets' lone goal of the weekend.
Bakersfield and Sacramento State are playing for the fourth time with the Hornets leading the all-time series 3-1. Sacramento State defeated the Roadrunners 3-1 last season in Bakersfield.
Southern Utah began 2014 by going 0-1-1 last weekend. The Thunderbirds rallied from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits to tie Division II Dixie State 4-4 last Friday at home in Cedar City. Fourth different SU players scored during the match. Southern Utah lost 2-0 at UC Santa Barbara last Sunday. CSUB takes on the Gauchos Sept. 14 in Santa Barbara. Katie Jones has one goal and one assist this season for the Thunderbirds.
Bakersfield holds a 2-1-1 all-time series advantage as the teams play for the first time since the 2010 campaign.
