Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Sacramento State pitcher Justin Dillon no-hit Bakersfield through the first seven innings as the Hornets (27-17, 14-4 WAC) defeated the Roadrunners (17-25, 9-9 WAC) 7-3 Sunday afternoon.
Dillion walked Jordie Hein (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) twice (first and third) and Mylz Jones (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) (in the seventh) before David Metzgar (Fr.,. Lancaster, Calif., Paraclete HS) reached on an infield single to open the eighth inning.
Dillon faced four over the minimum, got 10 ground ball outs and struck out three. Dillion gave way to Austin Ragsdale in the ninth. Ragsdale would give up a Soloman Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Golden West College) three-run home run. Ragsdale allowed a Jones hit which brought on Sac State closer Sutter McLoughlin.
McLoughlin retired the first two Roadrunners he faced before Will Soto's second error of the inning extended the inning for one more batter before McLoughlin retired the 'Runners for the game.
The Hornets doubled three times on the way to three runs in the top of the first and added an unearned run in the top of the fifth. Sacramento State scored three runs in the top of the ninth to cap of the Hornets' scoring.
Rhys Hoskins posted three of the 11 Hornets' hits. He scored two runs and had a RBI to lead the Hornets. Nathan Lukes went 2-for-5 for Sac State. Scotty Burcham was 2-for-5 with three RBI's while David Del Grande recorded two RBI's.
Hein (2), Jones, and Metzgar stole a total of four bases.
Bakersfield hosts Cal State Northridge Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
