BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--No. 3 Cal Poly (31-5) defeated Bakersfield (14-20) 9-1 Tuesday night at Hardt Field.

Cal Poly batted around in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead. Mustangs' catcher Brett Barbier, in only ninth appearance of the season, smacked a two-RBI double to key the rally. The Mustangs scored twice in the fourth, once in the fifth, and twice in the sixth.

Nick Mathais led Cal Poly as he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Brian Mundell drove in four runs. Zack Zehner was 3-for-5 with a run scored. In addition to his second inning double, Barbier was 2-for-5 with two run scored. Nick Torres went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Logan Trowbridge (Jr., Santa Cruz, Calif., College of San Mateo) posted two of the Bakersfield hits. Mylz Jones (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) drove in the lone CSUB run with a sac fly in the eighth that plated Max Carter (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) who had tripled earlier in the inning.

The Roadrunners open a five-game road trip Thursday with the WAC series opener at Texas-Pan American. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. (CDT).
