BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield baseball team (3-2) hosts 2013 NCAA Tournament participant Towson this weekend. This is the first time that Bakersfield and Towson are playing in baseball.
A four seed in the 2013 CAA Tournament, Towson won the league meet to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. This success for the Tigers came despite an announcement that the program was to be dropped at the end of the 2013 season. Supporters of the program found the necessary funds to keep the program.
Fast forward to 2014, the Tigers swept three games at the Wake Forest Tournament Feb. 15-17 to open the season. Towson defeated the host Demon Deacons 5-4 in the season opener last Friday. The Tigers outscored their opponents 22-8 over the tournament span.
The Roadrunners dropped a pair of games earlier this week. UC Santa Barbara defeated Bakersfield 5-1 on Tuesday. UC Irvine handed the 'Runners a 3-2 defeat on Wednesday.
