SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--Four UC Santa Barbara pitchers combined on a six-hitter as the Gauchos (1-0) defeated Bakersfield (3-1) 5-1 in baseball action Tuesday afternoon.

Playing for the first time in 2014 after having their opening series cancelled against No. 5 North Carolina State due to weather, the Gaucho pitchers, led by starter Dylan Hecht, struck out 12 Roadrunner batters.

Logan Trowbridge (Sr., Santa Cruz, Calif., College of San Mateo) gave the 'Runners the lead in the top of the second when he singled in Soloman Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Golden West College). Tyler Kuresa's three-run home run in the bottom of the third gave UCSB the lead. The Gauchos would score one in the sixth. Bakersfield threatened in the top of the eighth when CSUB put runners on first and second with two outs. Pinch-hitter Allen Gwynn (R-Sr., Santa Paula, Calif., Ventura College) flew out to left to end the inning. The scored their final run in the eighth to make it the final 5-1.

Four 'Runner pitchers allowed six UCSB hits. Roadrunner starter James Barragan (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) took loss as he went the first six innings. Trowbridge was 2-of-4.

Bakersfield heads to UC Irvine Wednesday night for a 6:30 p.m. start.
