Box Score MOSCOW, Idaho--Bakersfield (14-8, 8-2 WAC) handed WAC leader Idaho (17-7, 10-1 WAC) its first loss Thursday night as the Roadrunners defeated the Vandals 79-60 Thursday night.
For the second consecutive game, the 'Runners led from start-to-finsh. CSUB took a 39-24 lead into halftime and led by as a much as 23 in the second half. The Roadrunners held Idaho to 26.3% shooting on the night (20-of-76), the Vandals connected on just nine field goals in the closing frame. Bakersfield shot 41 percent from the field, 41 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 82 percent from the free throw line. CSUB made all 12 of their free throw attempts in the second half (18-of-22 for the game). The 'Runners outrebounded the Vandals 58-43.
Tyonna Outland (R-Jr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) recorded her third-consecutive double-double as she paced the Roadrunners with 24 points and 10 rebounds.Outland added two blocks and two steals. Melissa Sweat (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Southern Oregon) scored 17 points while Dajy Vines (R-Jr., Oxnard, Calif., Santa Clara HS) tallied 15. Batabe Zempare (So., Accra, Ghana, Scottsdale Chapparal HS) grabbed 10 boards.
"Our team did a good job on the defensive end and I though that was the difference tonight," said Bakersfield head coach Greg McCall. "Our bench really stepped up tonight as we went deeper than we normally do and we are going to need that heading down the stretch. I was really pround of our effort tonight."
Winners of six in a row, the 'Runners travel to third place Seattle U (12-12, 7-4 WAC) Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. tip.
