BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield volleyball team will travel to WAC leader Missouri-Kansas City and Chicago State this week.
The 'Runners take on the 'Roos Thursday night at 7 p.m. (CDT). The match will be featured on the WAC Digital Network (http://vistaworldlink.com/WACdigitalnetwork/)
Missouri-Kansas City defeated Bakersfield 3-1 Oct. 4 in Bakersfield. The Kangaroos lead the all-time series 3-0. UMKC currently sits atop the WAC standings with a 20-3 overall record and an 8-0 WAC mark. The 20 wins is tied for the most in program history, while the 8-0 WAC start is the best conference start in school history.
The Kangaroos are also on an 16-match winning streak, the longest win streak in school history, and on Oct. 13 defeated Missouri for just the fourth time in school history and the first time since 1994. Jessica Hendin averaged 3.33 kills on .451 hitting to go along with 2.67 digs and 0.50 blocks per set last week as the 'Roos defeated Chicago State on two occasions.
Bakersfield will head to Chicago State for a Saturday match that begins at 1 p.m. (CDT). The Roadrunners defeated the Cougars 3-0 Oct. 2 to take a 6-0 all-time series lead.
Chicago State has lost 11 in a row after dropping a 3-0 decision to Green Bay on Tuesday. Chicago State is 6-19 and have lost 24 in a row in WAC play.
Bakersfield sits in a tie for second place (6-3) with New Mexico State to begin the week. Missouri-Kansas City leads the WAC with an 8-0 record. The top two teams receive first round byes in the Nov. 20-22 WAC Tournament which will be hosted by Bakersfield.
Seattle U is in fourth (5-3) followed by Utah Valley (4-4). Grand Canyon, which is ineligible for the WAC Tournament is in sixth (4-6). Texas-Pan American (2-7) which sits in seventh entering the week would advance to the league tournament. Chicago State (0-9) rounds out the league standings.
Bakersfield's Danika Youngblood leads the WAC in kills (3.70) and points (4.08), while teammate Luiza Martins is tops in assists (11.16). Individually in conference matches only, Youngblood leads the WAC in kills (4.18) and points (4.63).
