BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--After a one week delay, the Bakersfield women's soccer team opens WAC play this weekend with a pair of matches at home.
The Sept. 27 Bakersfield-Grand Canyon Western Athletic Conference women's soccer match was postponed due to a power outage in the surrounding area as a result of an earlier storm. Bakersfield and Grand Canyon will work with the WAC to determine a possible rescheduling of this game.
Bakersfield (1-8-1) hosts Utah Valley Friday night at 7 p.m. Bakersfield and Utah Valley are playing for the fifth time with the Wolverines leading the all-time series 3-1. Utah Valley swept the 'Runners in WAC play last season by identical 2-0 counts.
The Wolverines are 5-4-2 and 0-1 in the WAC after losing 2-1 to Seattle U last week in Seattle. Kalie Stubbs leads Utah Valley in goals (4), assists (2), and points (10). Goalie Jessica Duffin is 27th (1038:20) in Division I in minutes played. Duffin has a 0.95 goals against average and has made 49 saves.
Bakersfield host Seattle U Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. Seattle leads the all-time series against Bakersfield 12-0. The Redhawks swept the 'Runners last season in WAC play.
The Redhawks are 5-3-1, 1-0 in the WAC. Preseason WAC Offensive Player of the Year Stephanie Verdoia has scored seven goals and has 16 points in the first nine Seattle U matches this season. Verdoia leads the WAC in shots per game (4.78), points per game (1.78), goals per game (0.78) and game-winning goals (0.22). Verdoia is 21st in Division in points per game and 24th in goals per game.
