BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--No. 24 Oregon State used bonus points to their advantage as the Beavers defeated Bakersfield 25-10 in a Pac-12 wrestling dual Sunday afternoon in the Icardo Center.
The Beavers won four of their seven bouts via major decision including majors from No. 11 Scott Sakaguchi at 149 and No. 15 RJ Pena at 157. Ian Nickell (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) led off the dual by earning a major decision over Joey Delgado (9-0) at 141 pounds.
David Meza (R-So., Fullerton, Calif., Buena Park HS) defeated Toney Chay 3-2 at 165 for Bakersfield. The final Roadrunner victory came at 133 pounds where Jose Mendoza (R-Sr., Selma, Calif., Selma HS) defeated Drew Van Anrooy 5-4.
"We wrestled a really tough team today," said Bakersfield head coach Mike Mendoza. "I thought some of our guys came out and performed well and in some others we were outmatched."
The Roadrunners close out a four-dual homestand Friday night when Menlo College comes to Bakersfield. The whistle blows at 6:30 p.m.
