BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--After playing the first five matches of the season on the road, Bakersfield plays at home for the first time Thursday night when the Roadrunners welcome UC Riverside to the Main Soccer Field. Kick is set for 6 p.m. The first 300 fans through the doors will receive a Vuvuzela.
Bakersfield and Riverside are playing for the ninth time with the Roadrunners leading the all-time series 5-1-2. CSUB is 4-0-1 against the Highlanders since making the move to Division I in 2007. The Roadrunners defeated UC Riverside 2-0 last season in Riverside when the Highlanders were ranked 19th in the NSCAA Top 25 poll.
The Highlanders are 4-0-1 after playing to a scoreless tie at the University of San Diego last Friday night. UCR has given up two goals in five matches, winning three of their matches via a shutout. Romario Lomeli leads the team with three goals and seven points.
Bakersfield lost to 4-1 to Indiana last Friday and 4-2 at No. 16 Louisville last Sunday. The Roadrunners scored the first goal in both matches. CSUB has now played nationally ranked opponents 11 times since moving to Division I.
