BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Cody Beam and Michael Smith combined on a six-hitter as Dallas Baptist (21-19, 8-7 WAC) handed CSU Bakersfield (27-14, 11-4 WAC) a 7-3 defeat in the WAC series finale Sunday afternoon at Hardt Field.
The Patriots scored four runs in the top of the second before Cael Brockmeyer (Jr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) broke the seal for CSUB with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. Kevin Younger (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) who singled in Jordie Hein (So., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) to make it 4-3 in the sixth.
Dallas Baptist would score three more times in the top of the eighth to put the game away. Beam got the win with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Smith, who gave up two hits, struck out five over the final 3.1 for his fourth save of the season. Austin Listi led the Patriots as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI's. Frank Martinez (Sr., Riverside, Calif., East LA College) was 2-for-4 for the 'Runners.
CSUB returns to Hardt Field Tuesday night when Bakersfield hosts FresnoState at 6 p.m.
