BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield won both of its matches on day one of the Roadrunner Invitational I Saturday.
Taylor Hanson (Jr., Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS) scored a career high five goals to lead CSUB past Bucknell 12-9 in the morning session. Sam Shead (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) charted a hat trick while Janelle Shelby (So., San Diego, Calif., Grossmont HS) posted two goals. Alex Bayer (So., Alta Loma, Calif., Los Osos HS) made eight saves.
CSUB jumped out to a 5-0 lead as the Roadrunners defeated Wagner 15-10 in afternoon play. Shead, Shannon McKenzie (R-Sr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS), Sierra Peltcher (R-Sr., Santa Maria, Calif., Saint Joseph HS, Jessica Browning (Sr., Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS), and Amanda Nesbit (Sr., Chino Hills, Calif., Chino Hills HS) all scored two goals in the match. Bayer made nine saves.
The tournament continues Sunday when the Roadrunners host No. 3 Arizona State in the first home MPSF match for CSUB since joining the league at 11 a.m. The Roadrunners take on No. 20 Pacific at 3:15 p.m.
