BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield baseball team travels to Cal State Northridge Tuesday for the first of three games against the Matadors this season.
The Roadrunners and Cal State Northridge will play again in Northridge on Apr. 1 and again Apr. 10 in Bakersfield. The Matadors lead the all-time series 6-5. Cal State Northridge fell to 6-11 after dropping a 5-4 decision to No. 11 UCLA last Tuesday at home. Nate Ring leads the team in hitting (.323). Miles Williams leads the squad in home runs (5) and RBI's (17).
CSUB, which swept a four-game series from Northern Colorado this past weekend, posted back to back shutouts in the first two games of the Bears' series Mar. 15-16. This was the second time in school history the Roadrunners charted back to back shutouts. CSUB defeated Kansas (12-0) and Air Force (5-0) Mar. 4 and 5 of 2011.
Two CSUB players, Tyler Shryock (Jr., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) and Mylz Jones (Fr., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) enter the week on 11-game hitting streaks. Oscar Sanay (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) charted a 12-game hitting streak earlier this season.
Jeremy Rodriguez holds the school record for longest hitting streak as he posted a hit in 19 consecutive games during the 2010 campaign.
