BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--For the second time this season, the CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team will take on future WAC foe UT-Pan American Wednesday.
The Roadrunners (8-15) are looking for their seventh consecutive victory. During the current six-game winning streak, CSUB defeated the Broncs 85-62 Jan. 8 in Bakersfield. The Roadrunners lead the all-time series 5-0.
UTPA (8-13) had a three-game winning streak snapped by NJIT Saturday. UTPA blew a 15-point second half lead to the Highlanders. The Broncs are led by Joyeal Marshall who leads the team in scoring (9.2 ppg) and is second on the team in rebounding (7.0 rpg).
Redshirt sophomore guard Tyonna Outland (Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) was selected CollegeSportsMadness Independent Player of the Week for the third week in a row Feb. 4. This is the fourth time this season she has earned the honor. Outland scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds in CSUB's 70-62 victory over Cal State Northridge Jan. 30.
Amber Williams (Sr., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS) has a chance to move into second place on the CSUB career scoring chart at UT-Pan American. She has scored 1,463 points and is 19 points away from moving past Kelley Tarver (1,481, 2005-10) into second. Williams is first Roadrunner to score all 1,000 career points at the Division I level.
Williams is now the school record holder for most made three-pointers in a career with 194. Diane DIttburner (191, 2001-03) held the previous mark. She also has broken Dittburner's record (539) for career three point attempts with 563.
