NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield lost a pair of matches to No. 15 Cal State Northridge and No. 17 Pacific on the final day of the UCI Invitational Sunday.
The Roadrunners lost 9-8 to Cal State Northridge in the first mtachof the UCI Invitational Sunday morning.
Shannon McKenzie (R-Sr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS), Sam Shead (Sr., Johannesburg, South Africa (Rand Park HS), and Janelle Shelby (So., San Diego, Calif.,
Grossmont HS) all scored two goals for CSUB. Shead made four steals.
Alex Bayer (So., Alta Loma, Calif., Los Osos HS) made nine saves.
"We had a strong start and came out with a good mindset," said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. "The third quarter really hurt us. We had the last possession with a chance to tie it up. We need to be able to convert."
The Roadrunners lost 4-3 to Pacific in the 15th place match. The Tigers led 2-1 in the first quarter. Both teams scored twice in the fourth quarter. Jessica Browning (Sr., Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS), McKenzie, and Shead scored for CSUB. Bayer posted 13 saves.
The Roadrunners open the program's first season in the MPSF with a match at No. 1 Stanford next Saturday at 1 p.m.
