LAS VEGAS, Calif.--A pair of sixth place finishes highlighted day two of competition for Bakersfield at the 32nd annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational Saturday.

Jose Mendoza (R-Sr., Selma, Calif., Selma HS) began Saturday by advancing via default over Hofstra's Jamel Hudson. Mendoza defeated Colton Rasche of Navy 13-2 in the consolation quarterfinals. In the consolation semis, Mendoza faced the No. 1 seed, Joe Colon of Northern Iowa. Colon, who entered the meet ranked No. 4 by Intermat, defeated Mendoza 8-1. Mendoza took on No. 18 Rosario Bruno of Michigan for fifth place. Bruno defeated Mendoza 6-4 in overtime for fifth.

Bryce Hammond (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) defeated Northern Iowa's Cody Caldwell by tech fall (15-0) in the consolation round of 16 Saturday morning. Hammond took on Arizona State's Kevin Radford in the consolation quarterfinals and defeated his Pac-12 rival by a 15-7 count. In the consolation semfinals, Hammond took on Virginia's Stephen Doty in the consolation semis. Doty, who is No. 11 in the current Intermat Top 20 at 174, defeated Hammond 3-2. In the fifth place match, Hammond lost by major decision to Lelund Weatherspoon of Iowa State 15-5. 

Ian Nickell (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) dropped an 11-1 decision Hofstra's Luke Vaith at 141 pounds in his lone match of Saturday. Vaith is ranked ninth by Intermat at 141.

Bakersfield finished 17th (40) in the field of 33. Oklahoma was the team champion.

The Roadrunners return to the mat Dec. 22 at the Reno Tournament of Champions.
