'Runners Open WAC Play At UNLV

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield men's soccer team opens Western Athletic Conference play Sunday afternoon at UNLV. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Bakersfield is playing UNLV for the seventh time with the Roadrunners leading the all-time series 5-1. CSUB has won five in a row in the series including a season sweep a year ago.

The Rebels are 2-6 entering league play. UNLV leads the conference in shots per game (17.12) and is second in total goals scored (12). Rodrigo Fuentes is tied with Bakersfield's Eduardo Caldaza for third in the conference in goals scored (4). 

In a match marked by a 90-minute delay due to a power outage, South Florida defeated Bakersfield 3-0 Tuesday night.The Bulls (3-1-4) and the Roadrunners (2-5-1) played a scoreless first half in which South Florida outshot the 'Runners 6-2. However at halftime, the power went out in Corbett Stadium, resulting in the long delay.

When play resumed just shortly before 10 p.m. (EDT), Lindo Mfeka scored what proved to be the gamewinner 2:11 into the second half for USF Mfeka scored at 81:11 off a Wesley Charpie rebound to make it 2-0. A little under four minutes later Ben Sweat's breakaway goal gave South Florida a three-goal advantage.
