Bakersfield Drops 2-1 Decision To Seattle U

Box Score

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-Bakersfield dropped a 2-1 decision to WAC leader Seattle U Sunday afternoon at the Main Soccer Field.

The Roadrunners got on the board first when Hugo Vinales (Fr., Palm Springs, Calif., Palm Springs HS) scored of a Jonathan Colunga (Fr., Lindsay, Calif., Lindsay HS) crossing pass in the 33rd minute.

Seattle U (5-8-2, 4-0-1 WAC) tied the score in the 73rd minute when Ian Hines-Ike connected on a direct kick following a Roadrunner yellow card. Miguel Gonzalez, the WAC leader in goals, posted his 12th of the season for the gamewinner when he forced a 'Runner turnover, took a long run, and his shot went into the low left of the Bakersfield net.

The Redhawks outshot the Roadrunners 16-14 (8-6 on goal) and outpointed the 'Runners in the corner kick category 8-3.

"We started off quite poorly," said Bakersfield head coach Simon Tobin. "Four of our five attacking players in the last 20 minutes of the first half were all freshman and they changed the game. They gave us a spark and I was quite pleased with the young players. I'm obviously disappointed with the result. I felt that we gave them their two goals rather than make them work for it so that's always disappointing. We have to make sure we eliminate our personal mistakes."

The homestand continues for the Roadrunners (4-7-2, 2-2-1 WAC) Friday night when Bakersfield hosts Houston Baptist at 7 p.m.
