Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Bakersfield hit .312 to sweep past Texas-Pan American 3-0 in Western Athletic Conference volleyball action Saturday night in the Icardo Center.
After a slow start, the Roadrunners defeated the Broncs 25-20 in set one before hitting .379 (14-3-29) in set two for a 25-19 win and completed their fourth consecutive victory by hitting .386 (19-2-44) in set three on their way to a 25-21 victory.
Debora Araujo (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) recorded the third highest hitting percentage by a Roadrunner in a three-set match at the Division I level as she hit .571 on the night. The 5-7 outside hitter had 13 kills against one error in 21 attempts. Kelsee Sawyer (So., Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS) had 12 kills. Fernanda Gonçalves (Sr., Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) directed the office to 42 assists. Libero Mariah Alvidrez (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) tallied 16 digs.
"Texas-Pan American came out with really aggressive serves, and I felt like our players stayed patient and fought back in each set," said Bakersfield head coach Jolene Shepardson. "The third set was good competitive volleyball. Both teams were low error and taking aggressive swings."
Bakersfield hosts Seattle U Thursday night at 7 p.m.
