South Florida Defeats Bakersfield 3-0

Box Score

TAMPA, Fla.--In a match marked by a 90-minute delay due to a power outage, South Florida defeated Bakersfield 3-0 Tuesday night.

The Bulls (3-1-4) and the Roadrunners (2-5-1) played a scoreless first half in which South Florida outshot the 'Runners 6-2. However at halftime, the power went out in Corbett Stadium, resulting in the long delay.

When play resumed just shortly before 10 p.m. (EDT), Lindo Mfeka scored what proved to be the gamewinner 2:11 into the second half for USF Mfeka scored at 81:11 off a Wesley Charpie rebound to make it 2-0. A little under four minutes later Ben Sweat's breakaway goal gave South Florida a three-goal advantage.

"I'm just happy to conclude our non-conference schedule," said Bakersfield head coach Simon Tobin. "I gave our team our toughest non-conference schedule ever and we are too young this year to play NCAA Tournament type teams on the road. We played well tonight, but the lights went out at halftime for 90 minutes. We didn't find our rhythm after the delay and conceded goals from naive mistakes."

Bakersfield opens Western Athletic Conference play Sunday at UNLV. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
