Thurman Limits CSUB To 1 Hit; UCI defeats CSUB 7-0

IRVINE, Calif.--UC Irvine's Andrew Thurman (29-21) limited CSU Bakersfield (20-28) to a Tyler Shryock (So., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) triple in the top of the second second inning as the Anteaters defeated the Roadrunners 7-0 Friday night.

Shryock recorded the lone Bakersfield hit in the top of the second. Thurman was wild at times, walking four (including Shryock), but he struck out six along the way. Friday night marked the second one-hitter of the year for Thurman to go along with a no-hitter he posted against Long Beach State last month.

For the fifth consecutive game, a CSUB opponent scored first when UCI's Dillion Moyer drove in Christian Ramirez in the bottom of the second. The Anteaters scored three runs in the third. UC Irvine scored three more runs in the seventh.D.J. Crumlich was the lone Anteaters' batter to record multiple hits (2-for-5). Jerry McClanahan drove in two runs for the Anteaters.

Friday's game marked only the second time that CSUB has been held to one hit in a game. UC Riverside's Mike Andriese turned the trick on Apr. 24, 2011 (UCR defeated CSUB 2-0).

The series continues in Irvine Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
