SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif--The Cal Poly Mustangs picked up where they left off Saturday evening at Baggett Stadium scoring first and jumping out to a 10-0 lead following four complete innings en route to a 11-4 win over the Roadrunners (19-25) in San Luis Obispo.
CSUB threatened in the first inning with Cael Brockmeyer (So., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) singling up the middle with two outs, he would advance to third base following a Frank Martinez (Jr., Riverside, Calif., East LA CC) single and passed ball. Brockmeyer would however be stranded at third to end the threat.
Cal Poly once again jumped on the board first in the bottom half of the first getting to starter Scott Brattvet (Jr., Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Santa Ana CC ) when Jimmy Allen tripled to left scoring Mike Miller who had singled to lead off the inning and advanced to third following a sacrifice and a Brattvet wild pitch. The Mustangs would go on to score three in the inning and one more in the second before Hayden Carter came in to pitch for the 'Runners.
Carter didn't fair much better as the Mustangs scored five runs on five hits in his inning and two-third of work. Cal Poly built a 10-0 lead following four complete after a four-run fourth inning. The Roadrunners chipped away at the lead in the fifth and sixth adding two runs in each inning. Brockmeyer ended the evening leading the 'Runners offensively with two hits including a triple and an RBI. Tyler Shryock (So., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) also managed two hits with a run batted in for the Roadrunners.
Brattvet (4-5) took the loss for the 'Runners who will try to avoid the weekend sweep on Sunday, first pitch is scheduled for 1 P.M.
