SUNLAND, Calif. - Freshman Lauren Holbrook (Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) shot two birdies and carded an 80 to finish in second place to lead the CSU Bakersfield women's golf team in their season finale dual match against Cal State Northridge at Angeles National Golf Club on Thursday.

Holbrook was edged by one stroke by Cal State Northridge's Margo Dionisio, who shot a 7-over 79. The Matadors won the dual with a team total of 327 while the Roadrunners combined for a 346.

"The course we played today may have been the most challenging of the year and we were able to manage our game confidently," said CSUB women's coach Tony Bernardin.

CSUB freshman Micah Lopez (Bakersfield, Calif., East Bakersfield HS) took sixth place with an 86. Playing in her final match as a 'Runner, senior Vanessa Boileau (Palmdale, Calif., Parclete HS) placed eighth with an 88. Sophomore Malea Miller (Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College, Frontier HS) rounded out the CSUB scoring with a 92.

It was the second match of the season against the Matadors as CSUN completed the season sweep. The teams faced each other on April 10 at Bakersfield Country Club, with CSUN winning 335-348.

The match closed out the 2012 season for the 'Runners, which was their first under Bernardin. After sitting out the fall season as the program needed to recruit more players, CSUB assembled a team and this spring played in four tournaments and also went 0-4 in dual matches.

"Because of the shortened season, it took a special group of young women to accomplish what they were able to do with a great deal of class," Bernardin said. "They bonded as a team and achieved the goal of respresenting the university with class."
