BAKERSFIELD, Calif--CSU Bakersfield (20-13) lost a pair of matches to nationally ranked opponents on the final day of the Roadrunner Invitational III Sunday afternoon.

No. 7 Loyola Marymount defeated CSUB 14-6 in the morning session. The Lions scored two goals in the first 51 seconds of the match and led 5-2 at halftime. A Taylor Hanson (So., Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS) penalty shot cut it to 5-3 with 7:34 to go in the third quarter, but that would be as close as the Roadrunners would get. LMU led 9-5 after 3 and outscored CSUB 5-1 in the final period.

The Lions' Alexandra Honny charted a game high six goals. Sam Shead (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) had a hat trick for the Roadrunners.

No. 19 Hartwick handed the Roadrunners a 13-11 overtime defeat in the final match of the tournament. CSUB rallied from a 7-5 halftime deficit to take a 10-8 lead midway through the fourth quarter. The Hawks tied the match when Sasha Freeborn converted a penalty shot with a little over two mintues to go in regulation.

Lilly Martinez and Shannon Leonard scored in the first overtime before Janelle Shelby (Fr., San Diego, Calif., Grossmont HS) scored 26 seconds into the second overtime. The Roadrunners couldn't convert three power play opportunities in the second overtime, with two shots rattling off the crossbar.

Jemma Dandy Young's goal on a breakaway with four seconds to go made it the final 13-11. Shannon McKenzie (R-Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) scored four goals for CSUB. Freshman Alex Bayer (Alta Loma, Calif., Los Osos HS) made a season high 15 saves.

"Today's games were the type we want to be a part of," said Roadrunners' head coach Jason Gall. "We made several defensive lapses which against teams like LMU and Hartwick will take advantage of. We had our chances against Hartwick, but we couldn't convert them."

CSUB returns to the pool at Santa Clara's "The Bronco" Apr. 14-15.
