Portland Strikes Out CSUB 3-0

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Four University of Portland pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts as the Pilots (6-1) defeated CSU Bakersfield (5-6) 3-0 Saturday night at Hardt Field.

Portland starter Travis Radke went the first seven innings, posting 11 strikeouts. Radke walked only one batter. Three relievers each had a strikeout including closer Owen Jones who set down Garrett Pierce (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) to end the game. The Portland pitchers scattered five hits, three of which were posted by Jordie Hein (Fr., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS).

The Pilots scored two runs in the second, both of which were unearned due to two CSUB errors committed in the inning. Beau Fraser hit his first home run of the season in the seventh for the final scoring of the night.  Kris Kauppila and Turner Gill combined for four of the seven Pilots' hits.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
