BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield swept a pair of matches on the first day of the Roadrunner Invitational III Saturday afternoon. With the wins, CSUB improves to 20-11 on the season, 9-2 in the WWPA.

Paige Tsuruda (So., Honolulu, Hawaii, Word of Life Academy) scored what proved to be the game winning goal with 4:58 remaining as CSUB rallied from behind to defeat Colorado State 10-9 in the opener. 

The Roadrunners led 5-4 at halftime before the Rams outscored Bakersfield 4-2 in the third quarter. With Colorado State leading 8-7, Shannon McKenzie (R-Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) tied the match 44 seconds into the final quarter. Tsuruda put the Roadrunners ahead, but CSUB couldn't convert two 6-on-5 chances before Taylor Hanson (So., Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS) made it 10-8. Caroline Young posted her fifth goal of the match with 30 seconds remaining before CSUB ran out the clock for the victory.

CSUB defeated Santa Clara 13-10 in the nightcap. McKenzie tied her season high with six goals to lead the Roadrunners. Malia Pahoa (Sr., Lake Elsinore, Calif., Temescal Canyon HS) and Sam Shead (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) each scored two goals.

"It was nice to pick up two conference wins today," said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. "I was really happy with our fourth quarters. We won each game with a 3-1 fourth quarter. One of the things we talked was getting everyone involved offensively. In the first game, we had eight different players score and when that happens, we are a difficult team to defend. We need to move on and focus on getting another conference win against LMU tomorrow."

The Roadrunners host No. 7 Loyola Marymount at 9:45 a.m. and No. 19 Hartwick at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
