CSUB Hosts AF For Military Appreciation Series

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield baseball returns to Hardt Field Tuesday and Wednesday, hosting a two-game series against Air Force. The Roadrunners will also honor the military with a “Military Appreciation” series that includes a 'civilian rations' collection for Operation Interdependence.

Fans are asked to look at the list below and donate small items that will be put into care packages and sent to our troops overseas. While the items must be small enough to fit into a one-quart bag, these “civilian ration” packages will provide up to 50 members of a platoon a small comfort from home. Donations will be collected at the entrance of Hardt Field, monetary donations will also be collected to help with shipping costs. Operation Interdependence estimates each box of civilian rations, which serves 50 soldiers, costs between $32 and $35.

For more information about Operation Interdependence visit them at oidelivers.org. Tickets for active and retired military are just $3 with military I.D. during the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M. on Tuesday 5 P.M. on Wednesday. As part of the series, CSUB will be wearing camouflage hats as part of the team's uniform.

The Falcons opened Mountain West Conference play by defeating UNLV in two of three league meeting over the weekend at Air Force. The Falcons are 6-15 overall. Garrett Custons leads Air Force in hitting (.383), home runs (3), and RBi's (12). Lefthander Michael Ceci (1-4) is scheduled to start Tuesday night against CSUB's Spenser Messmore (Sr., Granada Hills, Calif., Alemany HS). Both teams have not determined starters for Wednesday night's matchup.

Washington swept CSU Bakersfield in a three-game series last weekend in Seattle. Frank Martinez (Jr., Riverside, Calif., East L.A. College) hit .625 with one home run during the series.
