LOS ANGELES, Calif.--No. 20 CSU Bakersfield won two matches Saturday to conclude the Loyola Marymount Invitational with a 4-0 record.
The Roadrunners (16-9) defeated Sonoma State 10-7 in Saturday's opener. Paige Tsuruda (So., Honolulu, Hawaii, Word of Life Academy) scored a season high four goals to pace CSUB. The Roadrunners used a five-goal third quarter to break the game open. Alex Bayer (Fr., Alta Loma, Calif., Los Osos HS) made six saves as CSUB shutout the Seawolves in the final stanza.
"We are learning how to close out games by doing it on the defensive end," said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. "We will continue to do will if we continue to have fourth quarter shutouts."
CSUB concluded the tournament with a 10-6 victory over Cal State San Bernardino. Jessica Browning (Jr., Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS) scored four goals. Shannon McKenzie (R-Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) added two tallies. Bayer started in the net and recorded two saves. Chiyeko Morisaki (So., Lodi, Calif., Tokay HS) came on in relief and had four saves.
"It was a great weekend," Gall said. "We are getting better each weekend and it is showing in our play. We are looking forward to the next eight games at home."
