SAN DIEGO, Calif. - CSU Bakersfield (4-6) finished 10th at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Canyonview Pool.

Sam Shead (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) scored two goals and posted three assists to lead the Roadrunners past Cal State East Bay 10-6 to push CSUB into the ninth place match. Shannon McKenzie (R-Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) turned in a hat trick as Janelle Shelby (Fr., San Diego, Calif., Grossmont HS) and Amanda Nesbit (Jr. Chino Hills, Calif., Chino Hills HS) each recorded two goals.

Taylor Hanson (So., Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS) scord a goal and drew three ejections. Jessica Browning (Jr., Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS) added two assists and also drew two ejections. Megan Pezzolla (Jr., Upland, Calif., Bonita HS) made 10 saves and four steals.

CSUB took on No. 15 Hartwick in the ninth place match where the Hawks defeated the Roadrunners 11-9. Hartwick led 7-3 after two quarters before CSUB rallied with three goals in the third to make it 7-6. The Hawks outscored the 'Runners 4-3 in the fourth quarter for the final 11-9.

Browning scored four goals to pace CSUB. McKenzie recorded a hat trick as Hanson and Shelby rounded out the Roadrunner scoring. Pezzolla made seven saves. All six of the Roadrunners' losses this season have been to nationally ranked opponents. CSUB is now 3-0 against WWPA opponents this season.

“lt's great to be 3-0 in conference play,” said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. “We've only lost to teams ranked in the top 20 and beat UCSD. We gain confidence with each game and we are excited to see where we are going to be at the end of the year.”

CSUB returns to the pool Feb. 25-26 with a three-game WWPA swing at Sonoma State, Cal State East Bay, and Cal State Monterey Bay.
