LOS ANGELES, Calif.--No. 4 Duke (9-0) defeated CSU Bakersfield 97-63 in the first game of the USC Women of Troy Classic Friday night at the Galen Center.
The Roadrunners led three times in the first 6:49 of the first half. With the scored tied at 15, the Blue Devils mounted a 24-5 run that blew the game open. Duke would outscore the Roadrunners 33-12 over the final 13:21 of the first half to take a 48-27 lead into halftime.
Six Duke players scored in double figures led by Elizabeth Williams who had 21. Tyonna Outland (R-So., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) paced CSUB with 16. Amber Williams (Sr., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS) scored 12 for the 'Runners.
The Roadrunners fall to 0-7 against nationally ranked opponents since making the transition to Division I. Duke is the highest ranked team that CSUB has played since moving to D-1.
CSUB (2-11) concludes the USC Women of Troy Classic Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when the Roadrunners take on UC Davis (4-4). The Aggies defeated USC 78-69 Friday night.
