RENO, Nev.--CSU Bakersfield 125-pounder Tyler Iwamura (R-Sr., San Diego, Calif., Santa Fe Christian HS) reached the finals of the Reno Tournament of Champions as the Roadrunners finished sixth Sunday night.
Iwamura dropped a 3-2 decision to Wyoming's Tyler Cox in the finals. Miguel Comparan (R-Sr., Buena Park, Calif., Buena Park HS), wrestling as CSUB's wildcard entry at 125, reached the semifinals before losing to Cox. Comparan upset the No. 2 seed, Dominic Parisi of Applachain State in the round of 16. Comparan would finish fifth at the weight.
Bryce Hammond (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) who was seeded second, reached the semifinals of the 174-pound bracket before losing 4-2 to the third seed, Brandon Gutches of Southern Oregon. Hammond would place fourth after being pinned by Austin Morhead of Oregon State in the third place match.
Ian Nickell (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) placed fifth at 133 pounds. Nickell made it to the round of 16 before dropping into the wrestlebacks.
Timmy Box (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) finished fifth in his 141-pound weight class. Box advanced to the quarterfinals before falling into the wrestlebacks.
Adam Fierro (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) was sixth at 157. Fierro made it to the quarterfinals before moving down to the wrestlebacks.
No. 11 Oregon State (145) won the team scoring race. Boise State (119) was second followed by Michigan State (107.5), No. 17 Wyoming (94), Southern Oregon, who is ranked second in the NAIA rankings, (87), and then the Roadrunners (84).
CSUB is off until Dec. 29-30 when the Roadrunners travel to Chicago for the Midlands Championships.
