BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- It's a
battle of Roadrunners Saturday night at Rabobank Arena as the CSUB Roadrunners
(1-5) take on the UT San Antonio Roadrunners (3-3) in the first of four games
this season downtown at Rabobank Arena.
CSUB is coming off a 63-49
loss at Wyoming a week ago and have had extra time between games to prepare for
this match up with UTSA who played Thursday night at Oregon where they fell
95-78 to the Ducks before heading to Bakersfield.
This is the first CSUB
game being played this season at Rabobank Arena, the downtown venue previously served as the home court for men's
basketball from 1998-2011. Last season was the first season since '98 that the
'Runners played the majority of their home games on campus at the Icardo
Center. CSUB played two games at Rabobank Arena last season going 1-1. Rabobank
Arena will become the primary home the 'Runners again next season when all
Western Athletic Conference games are played downtown.
Saturday
night's matchup is intriguing with both teams possessing several similarities
outside of just the Roadrunners nickname. CSUB enters averaging 65.2 ppg while
UTSA is averaging 67.5 per contest. CSUB is allowing 73 points per game while
UTSA is giving up 72. Both teams also have three players, two guards and one
wing player averaging in double figures entering the game.
CSUB is led by
Brandon Barnes (R-Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Lipscomb) who's averaging 11.8 pppg while
shooting 45% from the field and pulling down a team-high 4.8 rebounds a game.
Barnes has scored in double figures in the last two games including a game-high
13 at Wyoming which included a 3-4 night from three-point range. Prior to that,
Barnes scored a career-high 24 vs. Westmont.
UTSA is led by
senior guard Kannon Burrage who is averaging 17.8 ppg this season while
shooting 40% from the field and pulling down a team second-best 4.7 rebounds a
game as well.
Saturday's
game is presented by Ultrex Business Solutions and 106.1 KRAB Radio. Fans can
bring a canned food item and receive a general admission ticket for just $5
with all donations benefitting the Golden Empire Gleaners. CSUB students are admitted free with CSUB I.D.
