BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team hosts Sacramento State and UC Riverside this weekend.
This will be the third time that CSUB and Sacramento State are playing women's basketball with the all-time series tied at one.
The Hornets defeated the Roadrunners 87-84 last season in Sacramento. The Roadrunners and the Highlanders will be playing for the seventh time with UCR leading the all-time series 4-2. CSUB defeated UC Riverside 72-66 last January in Bakersfield.
The Hornets are 0-2 after losing a pair of games at Long Beach State and at Cal State Fullerton opening weekend. Sacramento State feature four players scoring 11 or more points a game, led by Allie Moreno who is scoring 13 ppg.
The Highlanders are 1-1 prior to their Thursday night contest at home against Utah State. TreShon Nottingham leads the team in scoring at a 24.5 ppg clip. Brittany Cain (15.0) and Dynese Adams (11.5) are also scoring in double figures.
Redshirt sophomore center Janae Coffee (Fresno, Calif., Long Beach State) was selected CollegeSportsMadness Independent Player of the Week Nov. 12. Coffee scored 23 points against Fresno Pacific in CSUB's exhibition victory over the Sunbirds. She had 12 points and nine rebounds in the season opening loss to Arizona Nov. 9. Coffee is averaging a double-double for CSUB (11.5 ppg and 11.0 rpg).
