SAN JOSE, Calif. - In their
final match of the 2012 season, the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team fell to San
Jose State 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) on Tuesday night at Spartan Gym. Junior
outside hitter Debora Araujo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.)
once again led the way for the Roadrunners (14-17), posting 18 kills and nine
digs.
Araujo finishes the season with 475
kills, which cracked into the CSUB record book's top 10 list for a single
season. Araujo is also ranked No. 10 in CSUB program history in points in a
single season at 544.5.
Against San Jose St. (14-14), junior
setter Fernanda Gonçalves (Belo
Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) posted 36 assists and six digs. Opposite
hitter Kelsee Sawyer (Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS) ended a successful
freshman campaign by totaling nine kills and four digs. She finished her
impressive season with 313 kills, which is second best on the squad.

(Bakersfield,
Calif., Liberty HS) recorded
11 digs for the 'Runners.
The Spartans were led by two players in double digits in
kills with Michaela Leonard posting 13 and Hanah Blume adding 10.
Tuesday night's close match featured seven lead changes and
18 ties in the three sets.
The CSUB volleyball team wraps up the 2012 season with six
more victories than it had in 2012 and ties the highest win total by a 'Runner
volleyball team since 2009.
Next season will be a historic one for CSUB as the head coach Jolene Shepardson and the 'Runners
will compete for the first time as a member of the Western Athletic Conference.
