FRESNO, Calif. - The CSU Bakersfield
volleyball team fell to Fresno State 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-19) on Thursday
night at the Save Mart Center. The loss e nded a three-match winning streak for
the Roadrunners (10-11).
CSUB was led by junior outside hitter Debora Araujo (Belo
Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.), who had 13 kills, seven digs, two
digs and four total blocks. Junior middle blocker Julia Bowen (Ottawa, Ontario,
Wilfrid Laurier Univ.) got up to post a match-high eight blocks, which also tied
her career high (vs. Hampton in 2011).
Junior setter Fernanda Gonçalves (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) recorded 28
assists for the 'Runners, while libero Mariah Alvidrez (R-So., Bakersfield,
Calif., Liberty HS) added 11 digs.
Korrin Wild led the way for the Bulldogs (14-7), recording a
double-double with 16 kills and 14 digs with an impressive .609 hitting
percentage. The 'Runners will take on Fresno State again this season, in one
week on Oct. 25 at the Icardo Center.
Before the rematch, the 'Runners
will travel to Orem, Utah and will play Chicago State (2-21) at 11 a.m. (MDT)
and Utah Valley (11-7) at 7 p.m. (MDT). The 'Runners will start the busy day
against Chicago State, a team that has lost 15 straight matches heading into
its Friday night match against Utah Valley. CSUB leads the all-time series
against Chicago State 2-0 with the last matchup coming in 2008 when CSUB won
3-0.
Then the 'Runners will face future
WAC rival Utah Valley on Saturday night. The Roadrunners already beat Utah
Valley 3-1 on Sept. 22 at the Icardo Center and will be looking for the season
sweep.
