STOCKTON, Calif.
- Despite fighting hard in each set, the CSU Bakersfield Volleyball team lost
matches to UC Riverside and San Jose State on the first day of the University
of the Pacific Hilton Stockon Invitational on Friday.
In its opening
match of the tournament, CSUB fell to San Jose State 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-20).
CSUB then lost to UC Riverside 3-0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-16).
"We had some
rallies where we really fought, but we have to overcome our doubts and learn to
mentally and physically compete more consistently," said CSUB Head Coach Jolene
Shepardson.
Haleigh Haratyk
(So., Corona, Calif., Centennial HS) led the 'Runners in kills once again with
a match-high 15 against San Jose State while also adding nine digs. Chelcy Motes (So., Thatcher, Ariz., Thatcher HS) put up a season-high 14 digs while
Tika Smith (R-Jr., Sweetwater, Texas, Sweetwater HS) added eight kills.
Lisa Bartsch
(So., Wuppertal, Germany, Augusta State) totaled 17 assists, while Danielle Gong
(Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) recorded 15 assists and chipped in
three service aces.
Against UC Irv
3-0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-16). The Roadrunners battled back after losing the first
set in a back-and-forth second set that took extra points to decide before the
Highlanders held on for the win and then took the third set to win the match.
Three Highlanders hit double digits in kills, led by Amanda Vialpando with 19.
Haratyk and
Smith finished with eight kills apiece in the match with Haratyk adding nine
digs. Bartsch recorded a double-double with 14 assists and 11 digs.
The Roadrunners
will wrap up the tournament with a match against the host Tigers on Saturday at
7 p.m. before returning to Southern California to visit Cal Poly for a showdown
against the Mustangs on Sunday at 7 p.m.
