Loyola Marymount sweeps CSUB

LOS ANGELES, Calif.-Loyola Marymount (28-25, 12-4 PCSC) swept CSUB (15-33, 3-13 PCSC) in a conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

The Lions defeated the Roadrunners 8-0 in the opener. Loyola Marymount scored seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings for the run-rule victory. LMU outhit the Roadrunners 13-3 in the contest.

The Lions handed the 'Runners a 14-5 defeat in the series finale. CSUB took its first lead of the day with a run on Ryane Petersen's (Sr., Fresno, Calif., Fresno State) single up the middle in the bottom of the first. Loyola Marymount scored five runs in the top of the second. CSUB pulled a pair of runs back in the second when Stefanie Frei (Valencia, Calif., Canyon HS) brought home Laura King (So., Camarillo, Calif., UNLV), who had tripled with one out. Frei in turn would come home on Karissa Veiga's (Fr., Hemet, Calif., Hemet HS) double down the leftfield line.

That would be as close as the Roadrunners would get as LMU batted around for the second straight inning to put up five more in the third. LMU continued to add to its total with run-scoring singles in the fourth from Danielle Smith and Kylie Ahlo before Meghan Harman connected for a two-run homer in the fifth for her first career two-homer game. The Roadrunners would add two more runs in the fifth for the final 14-5.

Petersen drove in two runs. Amy Ricciardi (Fr., Chino Hills, Calif., Ayalo HS) was 2-for-2 with a run scored. King had two hits (2-for-3).

CSUB concludes the regular season May 7-8 by hosting Sacramento State. The games get underway at 12 p.m. both days.
