CSUB Falls 6-5 To Santa Clara; 16-5 To No. 7 SJ State

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-CSUB dropped a pair of matches at the Santa Clara Invitational Apr. 9 at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The Roadrunners lost 6-5 to Santa Clara during the morning session. CSUB trailed 6-3 heading into the fourth quarter. Scoring two goals to get within one, the 'Runners missed a shot in the final minute that would have tied the score.

Jessica Browning (So., Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS) and Shannon McKenzie (R-So., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) each scored two goals. Sam Shead (So., Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) added the other CSUB goal. McKenzie drew four ejected while Taylor Hanson (Fr., Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS) made three steals. Megan Pezzola (So., Upland, Calif., Bonita HS) had five saves.

CSUB lost 16-5 to No. 7 San Jose State in match two on Saturday. Bianca Adams (Fr., Ontario, Calif., St. Lucy's Priory HS), Browning, Haylie Glandon (So., Fresno, Calif., Clovis West HS) McKenzie, Shead scored for the Roadrunners. Pezzola made seven saves in 2+ quarters before giving way to Chiyeko Morisaki (Fr., Lodi, Calif., Tokay HS) who made four saves.

CSUB faces WWPA foe Sonoma State (10:40 a.m.) and No. 8 Loyola Marymount (4 p.m.) on Sunday to complete Santa Clara Invitational play.
