CSUB Defeats CS San Bernardino 12-11 In WWPA Play-In

HAYWARD, Calif--CSUB defeated Cal State San Bernardino 12-11 in the Consolation Play-In match of the WWPA Tournament Saturday morning at Chabot College.

The Roadrunners led 8-6 at the start of the fourth quarter and got two goals from Taylor Hanson (Fr., Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS) in the final period to stave off the Coyotes. San Bernardino had a power play with 41 seconds left in the match but the Roadrunner defense was able to kill off the penalty and earn the victory.

Hanson, Amanda Nesbit (So., Chino Hills, Calif., Chino Hills HS), and Sam Shead (So. Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) each scored three goals. Jessica Browning (So., Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS), Haylie Glandon (So., Fresno, Calif., Clovis West HS), and Shannon McKenzie (R-So., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) rounded out the CSUB scoring. Megan Pezzolla (So. Upland, Calif., Bonita HS) made six saves.

CSUB (9-29) faces Sonoma State at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. If the Roadrunners win, CSUB will play for fifth place Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. If the 'Runners lose, CSUB will play for seventh place at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
