CSUB Water Polo Splits At RR Invitational II

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSUB split a pair of matches at the Roadrunner Invitational II Apr. 16 at the Hillman Aquatics Center.

The Roadrunners defeated Santa Clara 8-6 to begin the tournament. CSUB trailed 5-3 at halftime but responded with four goals in the third period to take the lead. Jessica Browning (So., Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS) tied the score at five and put the 'Runners up 6-5 with a pair of goals in the third period. Sam Shead (So., Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) made it 7-5 with two seconds to go in the third period.

Santa Clara cut the lead to 7-6 with 2:09 to play on a Marina Allen goal. Malia Pahoa (Jr., Lake Elsinore, Calif., Temescal Canyon HS) scored the final goal of the match at the 40-second mark to make it the final 8-6. Megan Pezzolla (So., Upland, Calif., Bonita HS) made 13 saves for the Roadrunners.

Colorado State's Alo Pavlik scored seven goals including all three in the second period to lead the Rams past the Roadrunners 13-10 in the final match of the day. Shannon McKenzie (R-So., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) led CSUB with four goals. Taylor Hanson (Fr., Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS) posted three goals to go along with her two against Santa Clara. She has now scored 64 times this season. Bianca Adams (Fr., Ontario, Calif., St. Lucy's Priory HS) had two goals for the Roadrunners.

CSUB ends the regular season Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. matchup against Cal State East Bay.
