Back To Back Home Runs In Bottom Of 8th Highlight CSUB Split With Utah State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Back-to-back home runs from Jamie Miller (Sr., Livermore, Calif., Ohlone College) and Ryane Peterson (Sr., Fresno, Calif., Fresno State) in the bottom of the eighth gave CSUB 4-3 victory over Utah State and a split of a softball doubleheader with the Aggies.

Utah State won the opener 9-6. The Aggies scored all nine of their runs in the first three innings. The Roadrunners got one back in the second, one in the third and one in the fifth. CSUB posted three runs in the sixth. Petersen went 2-for-4 with two RBI's. Myshayla Fryer (Fr., San Diego, Calif., University HS) was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kasie Muro (Sr. Tehachapi, Calif., Santa Barbara CC) also had two hits (2-for-4).

The nightcap saw CSUB take a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Laura King (So., Camarillo, Calif., UNLV) and Fryer each drove in a run with doubles. The Aggies tied the score with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Utah State took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth when Ashley Ventura homered. Miller opened the bottom of the eighth with her first home run of the year to tie the score. Petersen's second homer of the year sent the home crowd home happy with a 4-3 Roadrunners' victory.

Miller went 3-for-4 to lead the 10-hit CSUB attack. Karissa Veiga (Fr., Hemet, Calif., Hemet HS) was 2-for-4.

Utah State and CSUB conclude their series Wednesday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
