CSUB
(4-14) split a pair of matches at the Cal Lutheran Tournament Mar. 5 in
Thousand Oaks.
CSUB
lost 11-10 to Pomona Pitzer to open the day. Tied at four after the first
period, the Sagehens outscored the Roadrunners 4-1 in the second period.
Trailing 11-8 heading into the final stanza, CSUB scored a pair of goals to get
to within one to make it the final 11-10.
Jessica
Browning (So., Lake Forest, Calif., El Toro HS) posted a hat trick for the
'Runners. Haylie Glandon (So. Fresno, Calif., Clovis West HS), Taylor Hanson
(Fr. Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS), and Malia Pahoa (Jr. Lake Elsinore, Calif.,
Temescal Canyon HS) all scored twice for CSUB. Megan Pezzolla (So., Upland,
Calif., Bonita HS) made 12 saves between the pipes for the Roadrunners.
The
Roadrunners defeated Whitter 12-10 in the final game of the day. The victory
broke CSUB's eight game losing streak (five of which came to nationally ranked
opponents).
Tammy
Barksdale (Sr. Atascadero, Calif., Cuesta College) scored what proved to be the
gamewinner with under three minutes to go. Pahoa added an insurance goal, her
second of the match a short time later. Barksdale had two assists in the match.
Shannon McKenzie (R-So., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) posted
three goals. Browning also had two
goals. Pezzolla charted nine saves.
CSUB
is back in action next weekend in San Diego. The Roadrunners are at No. 18 UC
San Diego Friday night at 6 p.m. CSUB is entered in the Mar. 12-13 San Diego
State Tournament. On Saturday, the'Runners compete against No. 17 Indiana (9:30
a.m.) and Princeton (2:30 p.m.). Sunday's play sees CSUB take on Wagner College
(7:30 a.m.) and No. 19 Pacific (1:45 p.m.).
