CSUB Drops Shootout To Cal Baptist 16-14 In RRI Opener

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSUB dropped a shootout to Cal Baptist 16-14 in the opening match of the Roadrunner Invitational Friday at the Hillman Aquatics Center.

The Roadrunners trailed 12-9 heading into the final quarter and cut the Lancers' lead to 13-12 when Shannon McKenzie (R-So., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rancho Cucamonga HS) scored with 3:09 remaining. Cal Baptist scored two goals in the next two minutes to make it 15-12, McKenzie's fifth goal of the match got CSUB to within two with just over a minute to play, but that would be as close as the Roadrunners would get down the stretch.

Taylor Hanson (Fr., Modesto, Calif., Johansen HS) added four goals for the 'Runners while Sam Shead (So., Johannesburg, South Africa, Rand Park HS) scored two goals.

The Roadrunner Invitational continues throughout the weekend. CSUB faces No. 15 UC Davis at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Cal State Monterey Bay at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
