BAKERSFIELD, Calif-CSUB (14-5) defeated Lafayette (4-9) 8-1
in college baseball action Mar. 17 at Hardt Field.
Jeremy Rodriguez (Jr., Thousand Oaks, Calif., Crespi HS) put
CSUB into the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the third. Martin
Medina's (Jr., Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) later in the inning gave
the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead.
A Rodriguez double in the fifth scored Tyler Shryock (Fr., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS)
to increase the Roadrunners' lead.
Medina added a two-run home run, his second of the year to make it 5-0. CSUB
added one run in the sixth and two in the seventh. Lafayette got on the board
in the eight with an unearned run.
Roadrunner starting pitcher Mike McCarthy (R-Sr., Brentwood, Calif.,
Univ. of Redlands) struck out nine while walking only two in eight innings.
Shyrock went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Rodriguez went 2-for-3
with two runs and two RBI"s.
Medina charted four RBI's.
The Roadrunners and the Leopards continue their series
Friday with a 2 p.m. matchup.
