No. 4 South Carolina Hands No. 30 CSUB A 5-2 Defeat

COLUMBIA, S.C.--No. 4 South Carolina (11-1) handed No. 30 CSUB (11-5) a 5-2 defeat Mar. 12 at Carolina Stadium.

Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura, Calif., Saint Bonaventure HS) put the Roadrunners up 1-0 in the top of the fourth with an RBI single that drove in Andrew Letourneau (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College). Evan Marzilli's RBI single tied the score with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. A CSUB wild pitch allowed the Gamecocks to take a 2-1 advantage. Jackie Bradley, Jr. increased the South Carolina lead to 3-1 with his RBI single.

South Carolina increased the lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning. Adrian Morales led off with a walk and after a one-out walk to Robert Beary would steal third base. He then scored on a RBI single courtesy of Peter Mooney. Scott Wingo would drive in Beary with a RBI base hit as well. CSU Bakersfield would scratch across a run in the eighth inning as Jeremy Rodriguez (Jr., Thousand Oaks, Calif., Crespi HS) delivered with a two-out RBI single to score Tyler Shryock (Fr., Tehachapi, Calif. (Desert Christian HS).

The crowd of 7,013 was the largest that CSUB has played in front of in the 2+ year history of the Roadrunners' varsity program.

The teams conclude the series Sunday when first pitch is tossed at 10:30 a.m. (PST).
