PALO ALTO, Calif-CSUB (6-2) won the final four events
against No. 2 Stanford (5-0), but the Cardinal defeated the Roadrunners 155-96
at Avery Aquatic Center Feb. 4.
Peter Bardessono (Jr., Elverta, Calif., American River
College) earned the first victory of the day for CSUB, winning the 500
freestyle in a time of 4:52.36. Evan Vizcarra (Fr., Penngrove, Calif., Petaluma
HS), and Chris Pipes (Jr., Fresno, Calif., Merced College)were second and third
in the event for the 'Runners.
Matt Parsonage (Sr., Durbin, South Africa, Limestone
College) led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Roadrunners in the 100 butterfly when he
posted a time of :51.95 to beat out teammates Dan Wickensheimer (So., Fort
Wayne, Ind., Bakersfield Stockdale HS) and Chad McKenzie (Sr., Durbin, South Africa,
Limestone College) in the race.
Garrett Hubbard (Fr. Granada Hills, Calif., Bishop Alemany)
again led a 1-2-3 CSUB performance, this time in the 400 IM. Hubbard won the
event by posting a 4:17.90 performance. Jake Priest (So., Las Vegas, Nev., Palo
Verde HS) was second while Jay Jones (Sr. Vancouver, Wash., Pacific
Lutheran)was third in the race.
CSUB ended the meet on a high note, winning the 400
freestyle relay. The "A" squad of
Pipes, Joao Foresto (Jr. Marilia, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Cristol Rei HS),
Bardessono, and Mark Silvius (Jr. Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) charted a
time of 3:09.79 for the victory. The "B" relay of Brian Martinez (Fr., Las
Vegas, Nev., Arbor View HS), Kevin Miller (So. Granite Bay, Calif., Granite Bay
HS), Parsonage, and Mitch Wurm (So. Mesa, Ariz., Dobson HS) placed second
(3:14.63) in the race.
"We knew swimming against Stanford was going to be a tough
test," said CSUB Head Coach Chris Hansen. "I thought Matt (Parsonage), Chad
(McKenzie), Evan (Vizcarra), and Kevin (Miller) swam strong throughout the
meet. We head to No. 1 Cal, knowing we are going to have to put up some fast
times."
Saturday's dual against the top ranked Bears has been moved
up from 1 p.m. to 11 a.m. at the Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley.
